Today we saw an interesting piece of gear on Kickstarter: the Platypod Ultra. The Platypod is a small, lightweight plate that you screw your camera into (like any other tripod plate) and then you use the small detachable "legs" (small screws) to mount the plate in almost any conditon. You can adjust where on the plate you put the legs, their height and grip to place your camera in otherwise unmountable positions.
The Platypod has 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads for tripods, heads, and quick-release plates, two open belt slots for strapping around trees, poles, and railings, and three countersunk mounting holes if you want to permanently screw it into a wall. The great thing about this it looks like is that there are as many interesting ways to use this as your imagination can come up with.
You can back the project and get one of the first ones for $49 or more. At the time of writing there are about 2 days left to back the project and they have already raised $180,000 more than they were asking for. Expected delivery is July 2017.
Check it out of Kickstarter.
