Our friend and member Paul Huebl has shared with us some amazing footage from his new Mavic drone from his YouTube page Crimefile News. Paul is an avid drone user and specializes in video for news and also for law enforcement. Paul is a Chicago cop turned PI that was drafted into TV news as an investigative producer. Today, he is a crime blogger and drone pilot in addition to my criminal defense investigations.

A strong believer in the power of video, Paul knows that video is a great tool for both fighting crime, and reporting on it. Paul is always looking for new pieces of gear to add to his tool-belt and has just added the Mavic drone.

Let's take a look at his test flight and review of the Mavic drone:

Pretty cool right? Do you have a gear review or test you want to share with us? Send it to us at Contact@TheVJ.com.

Character-driven journalism is not new to newspapers, though it once was. It was once called The New Journalism in the 1960s — see Truman Capote or Tom Wolfe. Today it is industry standard. Why not take the Sopranos or Breaking Bad formula and marry it to TV journalism? (How many interviews have you seen in The Sopranos? How many Man on the Street soundbites have you seen in Breaking Bad?)

In a recent study by The Reuters Institute, 40% of Americans no longer watch or read the news at all. They find it too depressing. All doom and gloom.

There is a great deal of concern, well placed, that few people under the age of 30 watch TV news. Viewership of TV news in general has fallen off, so naturally, TV executives across the boards are searching for a solution. How to appeal to a demographic that spends most of their time on social media?
