Reuters is reporting that Time Warner and Snap inc. have announced a deal to develop original programming for the messaging platform over the next two years.
According to the report:
As part of the deal, the media company's HBO, Turner and Warner Bros units will advertise on Snapchat as they try to grab the attention of millennials, who are increasingly moving to mobile and online from traditional pay-TV.
Time Warner said it expects to air three shows per day by the end of this year. Snapchat currently airs one show per day for its users, which typically lasts for three to five minutes.
It seems that everyone is getting into original content these days. Remember when Netflix announced it was going to make original content and people lost their minds? Today, Twitter, Facebook, and now Snapchat have all indicated that they want to have original programming on their respective platforms.
More and more people, particularly millennials, no longer think of TV in the traditional sense -- that is as an appliance or a box in their living room. Rather, any video content can be thought of as television. Additionally, shows no longer have to be 30 minutes or an hour; they can be as short as 5 minutes or less.
The important thing about this for you is that with this explosion of content there is going to be an even more constant demand for quality content to fill these platforms and channels. There is a thirst for quality video and these companies will be looking for people to produce it because they need to constantly fill these platforms with more and more.
Snap has been reported to be involved in talks for more orginal content from other networks and production companies. This is just the tip of the iceberg as soon enough platforms like Facebook and Snapchat will be dominated by quality original programming.
