Today's Video of the Day is from the Dunking Devils, a group of acrobatic basketball players, and shows the squad doing what they do best all on a moving train as it goes over a bridge.  If you are afraid of heights, this video may not be for you.

This video is great for a few reasons.  First the activity: acrobatic basketball, particularly on a train, is not something that you will see everyday. It is a captivating activity and the danger keeps your attention throughout, creating amazment that these people could do such a thing in such a precarious scenario.  Second is the shooting.  The shots in this video are all clean, no crazy distracting moves, and innovative.  The make use of HD camcorders as well as action cams to give a wide breadth of shots.  There are shots mounted from the train that put you in the video, drone shots to highlight the danger and beauty, and then standard wide shots and close ups that drive the action -- both of the people participating, and those looking on.  Lastly is the assembly.  The action is cut together astonishingly well.  A good mix of wides, action shots and reaction all put to intense music makes this video very captivating.

Character-driven journalism is not new to newspapers, though it once was. It was once called The New Journalism in the 1960s — see Truman Capote or Tom Wolfe. Today it is industry standard. Why not take the Sopranos or Breaking Bad formula and marry it to TV journalism? (How many interviews have you seen in The Sopranos? How many Man on the Street soundbites have you seen in Breaking Bad?)

In a recent study by The Reuters Institute, 40% of Americans no longer watch or read the news at all. They find it too depressing. All doom and gloom.

There is a great deal of concern, well placed, that few people under the age of 30 watch TV news. Viewership of TV news in general has fallen off, so naturally, TV executives across the boards are searching for a solution. How to appeal to a demographic that spends most of their time on social media?
