Video equipment rental site KitSplit has bought a similar site, CameraLends, to become the largest video equipment rental site.

KitSplit is a great site that can offer easy equipment rentals from people and rental houses in your area. It is basically the AirBnB for camera equipment. If you have equipment you can list it on the site and set your price, and when you are not using it you can rent it out to fellow video producers. If you are looking for equipment, just search what you are looking for and see results from around your area. It really is that simple.

“There are more content creators today than ever before and they all need access to top quality, affordable gear. The CameraLends acquisition will further our goals of democratizing access to great gear and empowering creators.” – Lisbeth Kaufman, KitSplit Co-Founder and CEO, Press Release via Forbes

Character-driven journalism is not new to newspapers, though it once was. It was once called The New Journalism in the 1960s — see Truman Capote or Tom Wolfe. Today it is industry standard. There is a great deal of concern, well placed, that few people under the age of 30 watch TV news. Viewership of TV news in general has fallen off, so naturally, TV executives across the boards are searching for a solution. How to appeal to a demographic that spends most of their time on social media?
